We support where help is needed.
We support various projects in Germany, focusing on our home region of Cologne and the Oberbergisches Land. We support initiatives in Romania through our sister foundation Pro Sanitate, and our help also reaches people internationally - we are particularly active in Tanzania.
While many people do not have enough to eat, there is also an abundance of food. To counteract this inequality, the volunteers at “Tafel Oberberg” are committed to helping people in need in the region. They distribute the donated but high-quality food at three locations in Gummersbach, Marienheide and Bergneustadt.
“wir helfen” is an initiative of the “Kölner Stadt-Anzeiger” newspaper, which is committed to helping children and young people who are in need or disadvantaged. The aim of the campaign is to help young people to grow up unscathed and develop new prospects in life.
Since its foundation in the fall of 1998, the non-profit association, headed by Hedwig Neven DuMont, has supported up to 150 projects and initiatives in the region every year.
In the event of a terminal illness or the imminent loss of a loved one, those affected and their relatives often feel helpless and overwhelmed. The Johanniter inpatient hospice in Wiehl provides loving support and care to ensure a dignified and pain-free last journey through life. If they decide to be cared for in their familiar home environment, the Johanniter cooperation partners are there to support the sick and their families.
The diagnosis of an incurable illness in a child or young person presents families with enormous challenges. Germany's first children's hospice was founded in Olpe in 1998 to accompany them on this difficult path. It offers space for up to twelve terminally ill children and their relatives.
The Balthasar hospice is dependent on support, as around 50 percent of the total costs have to be financed by donations.
So that people do not have to suffer from the pain of cancer or others, palliative medicine is integrated into the treatment at Waldbröl District Hospital at an early stage. On the palliative care ward, the experienced team has ten beds at its disposal to provide patients with the best possible relief from their symptoms.
We support various leisure activities in our region in order to offer young people in particular prospects after school. The Waldbröl youth club has been in existence for 40 years and offers numerous opportunities for exercise and fun in addition to communal homework supervision. The new Waldbröl swimming pool “Balneo” also offers plenty of fun for the whole family.
The Aanchal Mission of the Catholic Church in Waldbröl is committed to giving Indian street children a better future. With this project, Father Anil has already been able to help over 2,000 children find their way to a better life.
The Protestant parish of Waldbröl supports two boarding schools for girls in Papa New Guinea (in Polimo and Wamema). In addition to the normal maintenance costs, regular repairs have to be carried out to maintain the building structure in the tropical climate. These boarding schools ensure that girls have access to studies at school in a safe environment.
The Pro Sanitate Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 2000 by Wilhelm Wegener. The aim of the foundation is to improve the standard of living in the region and to offer help when and where it is needed. The foundation regularly organizes charitable events to support orphans and disadvantaged children, provide medical aid for the needy and improve care for the elderly.
Chamischa Africa is our own project in Tanzania. There, we combine unique travel experiences with the good feeling of supporting something worthwhile at the same time. Because while our guests enjoy the beauty of Tanzania, every dollar they spend in our Moyoni Africa lodge or on our Moyoni Africa tours stays directly in the country and supports our local projects, the most important ones listened up below. We ourselves work voluntarily for Chamischa Africa and the entire profit of the company flows into our social commitment.
Born to Learn is an organization registered in Tanzania since 2011 with the aim of providing education to needy children and promoting their development. The founder, Samantha Peñalver, runs the project with exceptional commitment and dedication. The children and young people from the surrounding villages receive comprehensive support here: qualified lessons, help with homework and a hot meal. The education on offer ranges from pre-school to preparatory courses for college or university.
Unfortunately, it is still common in Africa for mothers to die during childbirth. In such cases, the fathers or families are often unable to adequately care for the newborn in the first months of life without breast milk. Betheli helpers support these families so that the babies can return home as quickly as possible. This requires nurses and a transport system to bring milk and diapers to the families and to train them on site in the necessary care of the babies.
We support beneath others three children's homes in north-eastern Tanzania: Happy Home in Manyara, Kindness Children Care in Arusha and Huruma Childrens Home on the outskirts of Arusha. We help with regular food supplies, hygiene articles, support with the maintenance of the buildings or step in when something is specifically lacking. We have set up a playground for the children at the Happy Home and helped to drill a well. Most important of all is the support for the young people to continue school or to find adequate places for apprenticeships.
